The knife to the bones

Have you been cut to the bones by an actions or words? We were in the wrong and something convicts you that you were in sin. This has happened many times in my life.
The Jewish are good chosen people but they are sinners. God give them the Bible to the Jews.
The Bible were to guide the Jews but they didn't always obey. So they needed an Savior.
Jesus was promised in the Old Testament and he came in the New Testament.
There were Jewish that didn't believe that they could enter the Holy Land and there were Jews that didn't believe in Jesus as the Messiah.
The Word of the Lord is powerful. This is the reason some will not believe in the Bible because it convicts them of their sins so they refuse to surrender to Jesus. There are some Jews that loves their sins more than Jesus.
The writer of the book of Hebrews teaches that we can fool the people but we can't deceive the Lord.
And everyone will give their accounts to the Lord.
God loves the Jewish people, the only way to the Lord is Jesus. If a Jewish person refuses Jesus then they can't have a relationship with the Lord and be in heaven with the Lord.
The Jewish person and the non-Jews needs to have a fear of the Lord. He sees everything that we do and we must repent from our sins and follow the Lord Jesus.

Hebrews 4:12-13

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

There are two options in life

If there is a stubborn child. You can give them two options and the child will think that they are making their own decisions. This can be effective in working with children.
Adults are little children that have big bodies. They want to rebel against authorities. They don't want to take orders and become self-centered.
The book of Hebrews address the Jews. The Jews that were lead by Moses could have entered the Holy Land but they didn't rest in the Lord. Many Jews followed their own desires.
This didn't change when Jesus appeared on this earth. He is the fulfillment of the Old Testament law.
Many Jewish people refuse to follow Jesus as the Messiah after the resurrection of Jesus.
There are many Jews that live today that don't enter the rest of the Messiah. When a person refuses the Lord then that person goes against the Lord.
It is not just a Jewish problem. It is a non-Jews problem because many people will refuse to follow the Lord.
They want to make their own rules but they are always at war with each other and God.
Like the little child, we have two choices. We can follow the Lord or not. God is the great Parent and we are little children. We can call God our Father or we can call Satan our father.

Hebrews 4:11

Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

We need to rest

The privileges we have under the gospel, are greater than any had under the law of Moses, though the same gospel for substance was preached under both Testaments. There have been in all ages many unprofitable hearers; and unbelief is at the root of all unfruitfulness under the word. Faith in the hearer is the life of the word. But it is a painful consequence of partial neglect, and of a loose and wavering profession, that they often cause men to seem to come short. Let us then give diligence, that we may have a clear entrance into the kingdom of God. As God finished his work, and then rested from it, so he will cause those who believe, to finish their work, and then to enjoy their rest. It is evident, that there is a more spiritual and excellent sabbath remaining for the people of God, than that of the seventh day, or that into which Joshua led the Jews. This rest is, a rest of grace, and comfort, and holiness, in the gospel state. And a rest in glory, where the people of God shall enjoy the end of their faith, and the object of all their desires. The rest, or sabbatism, which is the subject of the apostle's reasoning, and as to which he concludes that it remains to be enjoyed, is undoubtedly the heavenly rest, which remains to the people of God, and is opposed to a state of labor and trouble in this world. It is the rest they shall obtain when the Lord Jesus shall appear from heaven. But those who do not believe, shall never enter into this spiritual rest, either of grace here or glory hereafter. God has always declared man's rest to be in him, and his love to be the only real happiness of the soul; and faith in his promises, through his Son, to be the only way of entering that rest.

Hebrews 4:1-10
1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
“So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”
Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts.”
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.

Unbelief so we need to go here

We have two options in life, we can believe or reject. There are many choices in life so we can either choose life or death.
The Holy Spirit is drawing people to his side. He desire everyone to know him and that includes the Jewish people.
Jesus came to this earth to redeemed the Jews and non-Jews. The book of Hebrews were written to the Jews but every believer can learn from this book.
The Jews were in Egypt and God was going to take them to the promise land but unbelief was in their hearts.  If the Jews of that generation didn't have unbelief in God then they would be in the promise land and have rested. But they choose to not believe in the Lord so they didn't enter rest.
Hebrews 3:7-11 says, "So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. That is why I was angry with that generation I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.’ So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ” The author of this book is quoting Psalm 95:7-11.
There is a connection between the Old and New Testament.  God revealed his will in the Old Testament and fulfilled the Old Testament in the person of the Lord Jesus. He came to fulfill the Old Testament and prove that he was the promise Messiah that would be the final sacrifice for mankind.
Matthew 5:17-20 says, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.  For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.  Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven."
There were many Jews that rejected Jesus as their Messiah and God wanted the Jews to accept Jesus.
There is sin of disbelief in the hearts of mankind. The Jews are guilty of not believing so God is drawing the Jews towards Jesus. God desire that no Jews would perish because they didn't believe in God the Son (Jesus).
Hebrews 3:12-13 says, "See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness."
Sin seems great but never pays in the end so if you are Jewish or even if you are not Jewish, then come to Jesus and know him.
God wants the Jews to have rest but they must submit to his will. Jesus is the Messiah for the Jewish and he is the key to Israel.
The Jews may not be wondering around for forty years but their souls are restless and lost. They need to believe in God the Son (Jesus).
This is also true for the non-Jews. We need the Lord Jesus.

Hebrews 3:7-19

So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,
where your ancestors tested and tried me,
though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 That is why I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”
12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”
16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Moses the greatest prophet?

There are many Jewish people that think that Moses was the greatest prophet. Numbers 12:7 says, "But this is not true of my servant Moses, he is faithful in all my house."
It is true that Moses was a humble and great prophet but he was just a man. He was a man that was seeking after the Messiah.
Jesus came to this world and the God-man. He lived a perfect life and he died on the cross. He was the perfect sacrifice for all mankind's sin. He conquered death so we can be redeemed.
Jesus created Moses in his mother's womb so he is the Maker. Moses looked forward for the Messiah.
Moses was a sinful man but Jesus was the perfect Son of God. Everything is hold by the Lord Jesus.
The true student of the Old Testament will hold on to the teaching that Jesus is the Messiah.
He fulfilled many prophecies proving that he was from heaven, the God-man.

Hebrews 3:1-6

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,”bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
